Course objectives

The course is designed to facilitate the transition for ATS staff into supervisory roles. It aims to equip operational supervisors with the knowledge, skills and confidence to enhance their performance in their current/future supervisory management roles.
An intermediate to upper intermediate level of English language knowledge is required as a minimum.

The role of the operational supervisor
Dimensions of supervisor's role in the work environment and how supervisors position is perceived in different workplaces and by different worker groups.
Definitions, methods and barriers of communication and supervisors task in channeling communication and feedback.
Individual Type
The significance of understanding individual differences, their origins and behavioral effects.
Supervisor as leader, different types of leadership and how personality affects individual leadership style.
Theoretical background of motivation and the significance of motivation to performance at work. Supervisor's role in creating motivating work environment though coaching.
The importance of well functioning teams and their effect on productivity and quality of organisation's performance.
Managing stress
The origins of stress and how stress affects individual in variety of ways. Stress management methods to avoid long term negative health effects.
Critical Incident Stress Management  (CISM)
Definition of critical incident stress and its effect on individual. CISM system and supervisor's role in its use.
Managing safety
The need of safety management system to enhance safety in ATC and leaders' role in managing safety in their teams.
Managing conflict
Where do conflicts begin in the work place and how to address them. The importance of identifying conflicts and choosing effective ways to manage them.
