ATM Managerial Development Training
Course design
Most air navigation service providers have similar issues regarding the ways to promote career development for their senior ATCOs & ATSEPs. In such a context, ATM Managerial Development Training will educate a new generation of managers to face the coming ATM challenges, while ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Course objectives
The general objective of the "ATM Managerial Development Training" programme is to provide senior ATCOs and senior ATSEPs relevant training that will enable them to undertake intermediate managerial responsibilities within the ANSP.
Prerequisites
So as to undertake the "ATM Managerial Development Training" Advanced Professional Certificate programme, all candidates shall hold an end of secondary educational studies certificate and at least 5 years of professional experience as an operational ATCO or an operational ATSEP. ICAO English Language Level 4 is minimum prerequisite for ATCOs, B2 for ATSEPs. There is a requirement of a minimum of 10 participants in the course.
Course structure and characteristics
The "ATM Managerial Development Training" programme includes 7 (non-consecutive) modules of at least 30h each to be implemented over an 18-month period.
The venue of this programme will be the CANI facilities in Prague, except for Module 4 (Toulouse & Paris).
ATM project - a transversal ATM project will give the participants the opportunity to demonstrate their managerial skills by integrating the gathered knowledge gained step by step addressing a given topic. This will facilitate them to produce a written report and support their analysis in an oral final presentation.
The ATM project shall be initiated within Module 3 and shall be completed by Module 7.
Course content - programme modules
- Module 1 - APC Programme Introduction and The Manager's Role in the ATM Environment
The objective of this module is an examination of ANSPs from organisational and business perspectives.
- Module 2 - Management & Leadership Skills
The main objective is to make the participants familiar with contemporary managerial issues and show them managerial solutions to challenge manager's face.
- Module 3 - Introduction to ATM Project Management
The objective of this module is to guide participants towards a recognized project management methodology and be able to establish a project management plan based on a simple subject.
- Module 4 - ATM Key Issues & Future Challenges (classroom & industrial visits)
The main purpose of this module is to present ATM key objectives that will in short future positively affect the handling of growing air traffic within Europe.
- Module 5 - ATM/CNS Roadmaps and Master Planning
The main purpose of this module is to make the participants familiar with the development of CNS/ATM roadmaps and master planning compliant with regional and national objectives.
- Module 6 - ATCO / ATSEP Cross Culture Workshop
This module will provide the participants with an enhanced mutual understanding of ATCO & ATSEP work environments, procedures, methodology, specific terminology, time and equipment constraints. It will guide towards improved communication, cooperation and safety.
- Module 7 - ATM Project Management Presentations & Programme Conclusion
This module will give the participants the opportunity to develop their oral presentation skills and submit their overall ATM project for evaluation.
